My relationship with clothes began long before ImabyCassie. My mother was a fabric wholesaler, and because finding clothes for my proportions was difficult, she made mine, with me helping along the way. Feminine shirts, pencil skirts, flowing dresses drawn in at the waist. I loved being covered and still having my shape understood.
When I began ImabyCassie at home in April 2022, I brought that understanding with me. There were clothes for celebrations, for work, for someone who wanted something made around them. Then the pieces I made for my own everyday life began to find their way into other people’s wardrobes.
Through all of this, I have been discovering, adjusting, enjoying the process and dealing with the stress. Trying to make beautiful clothes while making a brand make sense in an unstable Nigerian economy. There have been pauses, other creative interests, and a return to making to order.
I wanted this archive to hold every design we have photographed, including the personal pieces and the commissions. To let you see the growth, rather than only where we have arrived.
I think about clothes you cherish enough to keep, and eventually pass to somebody else. That is what I want to keep working towards.
Thank you for following the process.
Cassie
